Krokstrandsfestivalen MAN MUST DANCE existed during a ten year period between 1999 and 2008. The last year, when the festival was at its peak with roughly 4000 paying visitors and 150 different artists, the people in charge of the festival decided that it was time to throw in the sponge - this was as far as they were willing to take the project; the festival having taken on proportions beyond the villager's wildest dreams.
Krokstrandsfestivalen was no more.
But, after a one year break, a new group of people - some of which had worked with the festival before, others whom were new to the project - decided that it needed to be resurrected.
We are now taking the festival in a new direction: this year's festival will be around the theme "meetings"; meetings between people as well as different cultural forms and expressions. The reason for this is because we want the village of Krokstrand to wake up and flourish once again. With one foot in what used to be the old festival, and one foot in the unknown, we are happy to present to you a festival we know that a lot of people have been longing for.
Krokstrand is a small village situated next to the magnificent Idefjorden in the municipality of Strömstad. One might feel as if heading towards "the end of the road", along a sinuous way in the middle of the forest, but the panorama which eventually introduces itself to the visitor is nothing less but the breath-taking entrance to Krokstrand!
Dramatic quarries, imaginative forests and lakes bespeaks that you're in for and extraordinary experience. The dock by the fjord is a place which will be populated by dancing feet - Krokstrand is not the end of the world but a village full of possibilities for us to make the best use of.
YOU are the people who make the festival possible, YOU are the ones who will make Krokstrand come back to life once again - We hereby welcome you to Krokstrandsfestivalen 2010!
